New Reflections on Catholic Prayers
Just in time for the new school year for parish religious education programs, Sister Janet Schaeffler, OP, has written a new book to help catechists – religion teachers – better understand traditional Catholic prayers. Her latest book, The Catechist’s Guide to Beloved Catholic Prayers: Understanding and Sharing the Tradition, has been released by Twenty-Third Publications.
In this book, Sister Janet offers a reflection, line by line, on traditional prayers such as the Our Father, Hail Mary, Act of Contrition, and the traditional Catholic grace before meals. She also provides background information on each of the prayers and offers study guides and questions that catechists can use with their students.
The Catechist’s Guide to Beloved Catholic Prayers is available from the Weber Shop at the Weber Retreat and Conference Center. It can be purchased for $12.95 in the store or ordered by calling 517-266-4035 or emailing webershop@adriandominicans.org.
The Weber Shop also carries another work by Sister Janet called Present Moment Prayer for Catechists ($3.95). This inspiring booklet is like a series of mini retreats to help catechists find new ways to integrate ministry with their prayer life.
In writing her books, Sister Janet draws on her years of ministry in religious education, adult faith formation, and retreat work. She is a former Director of Adult Faith Formation for the Archdiocese of Detroit and received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership.
