“Without true questions, there can be no genuine conversation or relationship with God.” That is the premise of the new book by Dominicans Timothy Radcliffe and Łukasz Popko titled Questioning God.
From the publisher:
Our God questions us, from the first conversation of God and humanity in the Bible, where God asks Adam, “’Where are you?,” to the Risen Lord’s questioning of Peter on the beach: “Do you love me more than these others?” But humanity questions God too, as in the audacious questioning of Jesus by the Samaritan woman at the well. In this process of mutual questioning, humanity is drawn ever deeper into the life of God, the eternal conversation of the Trinity. Insights into these transformative conversations are helpful as the Church questions how to be faithful to God in this uncertain time.
This book unfolds as a conversation between the two authors. Timothy Radcliffe, former Master of the Order of Preachers, has recently received attention for leading an insightful retreat meditation for participants of the Synod on Synodality in Rome in October 2023. Łukasz Popko is a Polish biblical scholar and teacher at the École Biblique in Jerusalem. Together, they provide a fresh and dynamic perspective on the biblical conversations between God and humans, showing how questions from God and questions to God have transformed them personally.
