Weber Center Shop features cards and prints by world-renowned artist and author Mary Jean Dorcy, OP. Sister Mary Jean was born in 1914 in Anacortes, Washington, the youngest of nine children. After finishing high school, she enrolled in the University of Washington. At the end of her freshman year, she became a member of the Dominican Sisters of Edmonds (the Edmonds congregation merged with the Adrian Dominican Sisters in 2003).
Sister Mary Jean went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Jesuit University of Gonzaga in Spokane, Washington, and her Master of Arts degree from the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California.
From a single sheet of paper, Sister Mary Jean started cutting continuous flowing silhouettes. By the 1940s, she was recognized as one of the leading American paper cutters.
Sister Mary Jean gained a deserved reputation as both a published author and artist. Her beautiful silhouettes have been used in her own books and have also been reproduced on magazine covers, serigraphs, prints, Christmas cards, and even on church walls.
