Sister Grace’s Hand-carved Santas

Sister Grace Dennis, OP, has been creating handcrafted art forms from wood and clay for 15 years. Her favorite creations are hand-carved, painted Santas made out of basswood, which she learned to carve from an instruction book.
To make a Santa figure, she starts out with a 10” long block of wood, rounds it, and then works on carving the features. Each Santa is unique and often holds a special toy or object. Depending on the size of the handcrafted Santa, it takes Sister Grace many hours to carve it and about an hour or two to paint it.
The Weber Center Art Shop is featuring the beautiful Santas of Sister Grace this holiday season. The Santas range in price from $20-$75 and they make wonderful Christmas gifts. Stop by to see the full selection available before they disappear.
Weber Center Shop is open to the public; regular hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shop is on the campus of the Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 E. Siena Heights Drive in Adrian, Michigan. Enter the driveway marked “Weber Center” and follow the signs.
